It simulates a child's lemonade stand, where choices made by the player regarding prices, advertising, etc. will determine the success or failure of the business.
The player is first given a weather report for the day (sunny, cloudy or hot and dry) and is asked to pick three values: The number of glasses of lemonade to make, the number of advertising signs, and the cost of lemonade per glass. The program then gives a report of the earnings for that day. A thunderstorm, sometimes occurring on cloudy days will void any profits and cause the player to lose any investment for the day. The game can be played either single-player or with up to 30 players.
Connecting Lemonade Stand to the classroom
I believe this Lemonade Stand game can enhance my classroom by creating a fun way to count money, budget, and educate on how to run a business. In an early childhood education classroom, this game can be used to teach a math lesson pertaining to counting and spending money.
Connecting Lemonade Stand to technology (if it is not a technology enhanced game)
I believe this game relates directly back to standard number one: Facilitate and inspire student learning and creativity. It faces the students with a real world problem in a face to face virtual environment.
Lemonade Stand can also fulfill standard number two: Design and develop digital age learning experiences and assessments. This game helps to develop an authentic learning experience by incorporating a contemporary idea such as a lemonade stand to teach math.
